F.W. Pehle built the home which now houses Senate Grove Inn Bed & Breakfast in 1884. Mr. Pehle emigrated from Prussia in 1839 and settled in the New Haven area. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1860 and fought for the Union Army in the Civil War. He was very active in the Republican Party and in 1881 became Franklin County’s first state senator. The Senate Grove Inn Bed & Breakfast is named after Senator F.W. Pehle.
The home built by Senator Pehle was constructed entirely of locally produced materials. The bricks were made on the Pehle farm and the stones used for the foundation and the window sills came from a local quarry. |
